PEARL, MS (WLBT) –Chief Ben Schuler said 46-year-old Mack Watts Jr. of Tchula kicked in the door of the Crosswinds apartment around 12:30 a.m. Saturday before opening fire on a man and his ex-girlfriend.

Investigators said Watts fired three shots into the chest of 38-year-old Robert Lee Lindsey of Canton, who was inside the apartment.

Watts also fired one shot into the abdomen of 33-year-old Candice Garnett, who was reportedly his former girlfriend.

Sources told WLBT that Watts and Garnett previously lived together in Holmes County.

According to police she fled the apartment and begged strangers in the parking lot to drive her to the hospital.

On her way for treatment she called 911 and alerted police that Watts was still at her apartment and that he had shot Lindsey.

Authorities were on the lookout for Watts' 2005 Chevy Impala early Saturday morning.

He was spotted about three hours later on I-20 west by Louisiana State Troopers.

Watts was arrested near Bossier City.
