JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – The New Orleans Saints going to the Super Bowl has unleashed an unprecedented demand for Saints merchandise in the Jackson metro area.
Managers at Wal-Mart, Hibbett Sports in Flowood, and Academy Sports in Jackson all say they have made big new orders for the lead up to the big game.
Merchandisers have never seen anything like it, there is a greater demand for the Saints jerseys, T-shirts and caps, than they have been accustomed to. It's greater than the demand for Ole Miss, Mississippi State and Jackson State gear.
Steve Finch, manager of the Academy Sports store in Jackson sums it up this way.
"Mississippians are pulling for the Saints, they can't get enough. They are rooting for a saints championship, I don't think it's gonna die down any time soon.
While the heavy demand comes during evening hours and on weekends, we found shoppers during the day Monday.
"What player do you want to get a jersey for, what name? Drew Brees, #9 Brees, that's pretty much the only guy I really like. Ha ha. No, I like the whole team," said Andrew Martin, Greenville customer.
"Decided today on my lunch break that I wanted to come out and look for some Saints shirts, because everybody will be having super bowl parties, it's so exciting, being from south Mississippi, I am a Saints fan, I am excited about the super bowl," said Rasheda Jordan of Jackson.
At Wal-Mart in Flowood, people started coming in as soon as the game was over Sunday night.
