RANKIN COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - It's been a blustery weekend, and hot chocolate is the perfect fix!
Plenty of that was on hand at the "Hot Chocolate Classic" 5K Run, benefiting the Foundation for Rankin County Public Schools.
The runners got up early to hit the streets. More than 500 people braved the wind to run or walk the course along the reservoir.
"They had two groups. One serious runners, one supporters. The serious runners, the weather didn't bother them at all. They're used to it. The supporters, a little more bundled up," says Dr. Lynn Weathersby, Rankin County Schools Superintendent.
Last year, the non-profit Rankin County Public Schools Foundation funded nine $1,000 scholarships and a nurse practitioner for the District.
