Scouts race in Pinewood Derby

Posted: Updated:

BRANDON, MS (WLBT) - Slick cars in all colors hit the race track Saturday for the Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby.

Saturday morning, Boy Scouts Pack 329 gathered at Brandon Alternative School for the friendly indoor racing competition. It's an event for Boy Scouts of all ages.

The cars all must be five ounces or less, and the length cannot exceed seven inches. All cars must use the same type of wheels and axles, but they can be decorated any way the scout wishes.  All cars are scrutinized before hand to make sure the races are as fair as possible.

The scouts love the opportunity to build the cars with their parents, then race them.

"The design is for parents and scouts to work together, build a relationship, and build teamwork between the scouts," says Pack 329 Leader Les Stapp.

The Boy Scouts Pinewood Derby takes place each year.
