JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – Mississippians living with diabetes learned better ways to take care of themselves Saturday.
The Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi sponsored its 31st Annual Super Conference at the Marriott Hotel in downtown Jackson.
A featured guest was local Chef Luis Bruno, who put on a cooking demonstration.
Those attending also heard from national and local speakers on the latest patient and healthcare information.
Organizers said the event offers instructions that teach people empowerment and how to live with the disease.
"Part of the thing when you have diabetes is you need to know what to eat, how to eat, when to eat, what to cook and that's probably one of the biggest questions we have when people are diagnosed particularly with type two diabetes. So Luis is gonna teach everybody how to do it today," said Mary Fortune with the Diabetes Foundation of Mississippi.
Topics included research updates on type one and type two diabetes, as well as diabetes in children.
