JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The former longtime Chief of the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians has been hospitalized.

84-year-old Phillip Martin served as chief for 32 years up until 2007.

Martin has been praised for vastly improving the economic standing of the tribe with the opening of the Choctaw's resort and casino in Neshoba County.

Martin's daughter confirmed he is at St. Dominic in Jackson.

The family plans to release a statement. But at this time, there is no word on his condition.
