JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Fire crews closed a stretch of Northside Drive for nearly an hour as they battle a blaze at an apartment complex.  Just before 3:00 p.m. Friday Jackson firefighters received reports of smoke and flames pouring from a first floor unit at the Northside Terrace Apartments located in the 300 block of Northside Drive near Hanging Moss Road.  Neighbors believed a woman was inside the apartment and tried to extinguish the fire before crews arrived.

"It's like a puddle out there that has water in it.  So a whole bunch of guys just dipping water with trash cans, pouring it inside the apartment.  They continue to pour and pour and pour until the fire department got here and they actually poured until they got it hooked up and ready to shoot in there," said Jacque Williams who lives in the apartment complex.

Fire officials believe the blaze started in the kitchen, but are still looking into the cause of the fire.  The unit is a total loss and another apartment also sustained smoke damage.  No one was injured.
