JACKSON, MS (WLBT) – There was an emotional meeting on the campus of Jackson State University Friday.
Bill Scott, the husband of the faculty member shot in a robbery this week, gave a warm hug to the man he credits with saving Andrea Scott's life. Bill Scott was back on JSU's campus, this time with former congressman Ronnie Shows in tow. He's doing everything he can to make sure JSU student Lemarc Humphries, gets rewarded for his heroic act.
After the two men hugged, Humphries said, "After getting hugged like that, I felt like we've known each other pretty much all our lives, you know, it was just one of those family type, bonding type hugs." Scott said, "If he hadn't of stepped out of his dorm room, in the rain, in the cold, in February, because he heard a couple of shots somewhere, she'd be dead today."
But 38-year-old JSU researcher Andrea Scott didn't die and as she continues to make a miraculous recovery, her husband, Bill is concerned that her assailants could hurt someone else, unless they are caught soon.
"It could happen here on this campus. It could happen downtown. It could happen anywhere because anybody that would shoot somebody in the head twice for a measly five dollars, you know, they're gonna do this again", said Scott.
Scott says he's confident Jackson police will get the three men responsible for attacking his wife. In the meantime, both Lamarc Humphries and Bill Scott say they plan to keep in touch. There are still no arrests in the case.
