VICKSBURG, Miss. (AP) - Officials say a 32-year-old Vicksburg man charged with eight counts of arson had been a volunteer firefighter for the Bench Volunteer Fire Department in Utica.
Leroy Evans was arraigned Wednesday in Warren County Justice Court. His bond was set at $2,500.
5 of the charges against Evans stem from a Jan. 25 blaze that burned five buildings, including homes and a small grocery store in Vicksburg.
The fire marshal's office said Evans has not been a volunteer firefighter for at least a year.
If convicted, Evans faces up to 20 years in prison for each count.
