JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Mississippi Department of Transportation, or MDOT, said Thursday it is ready to help with iced over bridges from the weather system coming in from the west and south.
MDOT closed off the bridge over I-55 at Fortification Street in Jackson to demonstrate to the media what it will do to bridges that get ice or too much snow accumulation.
A material that is part rock salt and part small pieces of gravel was sprayed out of the back of trucks to cut through the ice and snow and give tires traction.
Each county in the state has at least two of the trucks, while larger counties have many more depending on size. The trucks are called in by cities, counties, and the Mississippi Highway Patrol.
