Millsaps names new president

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - Robert W. Pearigen, vice president for university relations and professor of political science at The University of the South in Sewanee, Tenn., has been named president of Millsaps College.

Pearigen's hiring was announced Thursday by the college's board of trustees.

Pearigen, who will begin work on July 1, succeeds Frances Lucas who concludes her term this summer after 10 years as president.

Pearigen is a 1976 graduate of Sewanee and earned his master's and doctoral degrees in political science at Duke University. Following work at Virginia Tech and Hillsdale College, he joined the faculty at Sewanee in 1987.

Millsaps College, founded in 1890 in Jackson, is a liberal arts institution affiliated with the United Methodist Church.
