Ice causes accidents on roadways

Posted: Updated:

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Friday's heavy snowfall is melting quickly, but road officials warn ice is still forming when the temperatures drop.

Black ice is ice that's clear and slick on bridges and roads. You may not see it before you're slipping and sliding. It may have been the cause of numerous accidents this morning including this one on the ramp from I-20 eastbound to I-220 northbound.

Two SUV's collided and both ended up off the road. There were some injuries.

No word on the extent of the injuries. The passengers inside those vehicles waited it out in the snow while police worked the scene.

Emergency crews had to work a second wreck at the same time. A silver car and a silver SUV collided on the ramp from I-220 south onto I-20 east. The SUV ended up crunched into a tree. Again no word on injuries. MDOT crews were in the area at the time spreading de-icer.
