JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Just as quickly as it came, the snow nearly melted all away. That was good news for Entergy crews that worked quickly to restore power across the state. Heavy snow resting on power lines knocked out electricity to thousands of Mississippi residences. At its peak 19,800 customers were without power.
WLBT spotted crews out working in North and South Jackson this afternoon. Entergy spokesperson Mara Hartman announced only 100 customers were without power 5:30 p.m. Saturday and expected power to be fully restored by late Saturday night.
"We have a generator so that hasn't been a problem for us. Several of the neighbors along this street also have generators, so I don't think they have been affected," said Susie Puckett who lives in Jackson's Eastover subdivision.
The snow also snapped tree branches and forced a large oak to split in half then topple onto a house on Woody Drive in south Jackson. The home is for sale and unoccupied. No one was injured.
