JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A Jackson State University student received a special honor from the Hinds County Board of Supervisors Tuesday.
LeMarc Humphrey was presented a pin with the words "Above and Beyond" and also a check for $1,000, which was donated anonymously.
Humphrey is the good Samaritan who came to the aid of shooting victim Andrea Scott. The 36-year-old researcher was shot twice in the head during a robbery attempt on campus February first.
Humphrey comforted Scott and called police and her husband, possibly saving her life. "I don't consider myself a hero," he said.
"That's a strong word for something so small that I did," said Humphrey. "So I just consider myself a role model for doing what's right."
Humphrey says he continues to stay in touch with Scott, who's now out of the hospital. No arrests have been made in the shooting.
