JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Karen Irby was in court Tuesday facing criminal charges related to an automobile wreck that killed two physicians last February.

This is the first time Irby has been seen in a court of law since that deadly wreck.

Irby appeared somber, showing little emotion and having limited conversation with her criminal defense attorney Joe Holloman.

Prosecutor Patrick Beasley wants access to Irby's medical history and intends to subpoena it.

He also plans to subpoena a Mercedes expert to inspect the vehicle she was driving on the night of the crash. Beasley is seeking information about what, if any, information may be contained in the car's so-called "black boxes."

Irby's attorney will have an independent Mercedes expert inspect the car as well.

Due to a gag order, both sides declined to answer specific questions.

"I will not confirm anything," Beasley, an assistant district attorney, told us. "I am bound by the gag order about any details of this case."

Irby is accused of speeding and driving under the influence when she crashed her Mercedes, killing the two physicians. Her husband, Stuart, a prominent Jackson businessman, was a passenger in the vehicle.

Karen Irby faces two counts of depraved heart murder -- and one count of aggravated assault against her husband.

The families of Dr. Mark Pogue and his fiancee, Dr. Lisa Dedousis, have filed A $60 million civil lawsuit against the Irbys.
