Fatal school bus accident in Tippah County

FALKNER, MS (AP) - One man was killed and a teenager injured after the vehicle they were in slammed into the back of a school bus in Tippah County.

Mississippi Highway Patrol Officer Ronny Hall says that the school bus was in the process of picking up a child on Mississippi Highway 370 Thursday when it was struck in the rear by a pickup.

Hall said 65-year-old Johnnie L. Williams of Ashland, the truck driver, was not wearing a seat belt.

Williams was airlifted to a Tupelo hospital where he later died from complications related to the accident.

A 13-year-old passenger was airlifted to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn. where she remains in critical condition.

None of the Falkner School students on the bus were injured.
