HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Hattiesburg Police have arrested a man and charged him with the murders of two women.

Gregory Mootye was arrested Thursday around 2 a.m. and charged with two counts of homicide in connection with the deaths of Alesia Twillie, 49, and her daughter Anjelica Twillie, 26. Anjelica was seven months pregnant when she was murdered.

The two were found dead at the home at the corner of Dabbs Street and Pauline Avenue in Hattiesburg Monday.

"These are someone's family members, someone's loved ones," said Sgt. Allen Murray, Hattiesburg police spokesman.

Their bodies were discovered after police received a concern-of-welfare call Monday morning.

Mootye may have even been in arms-reach when officers arrived.

"Officers arrived on scene, found an open door, struggled with a male and he got away," said Major Hardy Sims, with the Hattiesburg Police Department.

Police said a weapon was found at the scene, but still will not say what the weapon was or how the victims may have died.

Family members at the scene Tuesday, moving belongings out of the house.

One family member said Anjelica's son was in the home when the murders happened, but was unharmed.

"Not only are they hurting, we're somewhat reaching out to them considering that we're working for the community," said Murray.

Even though one victim was pregnant, police said the case is still a double homicide in a neighborhood where shockwaves were felt by many.

"Hopefully it actually is going to be something isolated and something we can go ahead and correct immediately," said Murray.
