Arson possible with Vicksburg fires

Posted: Updated:

VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) - Is an arsonist preying on Vicksburg?

Fire investigators have reason to think so. Three more homes burned overnight. That makes a total of 10 house fires and one business fire in the past month. This is video of the aftermath of the homes that burned starting at 2 a.m. Friday morning.

The houses are located in the 1500 block of grove street. Sebastian Davis is a resident and he says he is concerned about his home.

"I hope the city get together and figure out what's going on. They need to, because for one, all these houses get burnt on; ain't nobody saying nothing. Only thing it's in the media, in the paper just saying it's getting burnt down, so what's the cause? the public wants to know what's the cause of it, you know what I'm saying?" said Sebastian Davis, arson victim.

"Earlier this month, three houses on 2nd North Street, two houses on Jackson street and two on main street and a community grocery store all burned.

Fire Chief Charles Atkins is out of town and not available to talk to us on camera, but he says arson is suspected in at least seven of the fires.
