VICKSBURG, MS (WLBT) – As crime and disciplinary problems among youth increase, one Vicksburg organization is reaching out to parents and children to provide some answers.

A day long Youth and Family Empowerment Conference was held Saturday in the River City.

It was sponsored by Truly Ministries Inc. at Warren Central Junior High School.

Parents and their children attended classes on topics ranging from dealing with children's anger and the consequences of crime to sharing and preparing for college.

Various speakers from law enforcement officials to business owners shared their messages of success with participants.

"Walking away from here they'll have at  least a tool that says here's what I can do and here's what I can't do and here's a resource that I've either heard or I can attach myself to to grow even stronger," said organizer Troy D. Truly.

This is the first year the youth training day conference has been held.
