No charges will be filed against Canton officer

Posted: Updated:

CANTON, MS (WLBT) - No criminal charges will be pursued against a former Canton City animal control officer who was accused of improperly dumping animals.

Investigators discovered more than 100 animal carcasses allegedly dumped by Alonzo Esco in a creek. Affidavits must be signed by a Canton Police investigator and turned in before Esco can be arrested.

Canton Police Chief Vickie McNeill said she will not authorize her investigator to file the paperwork because no one saw any crimes occurring. No further action against Esco will be taken.
