JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Trade Mart at the state fairgrounds was the place to be Sunday for those looking to buy something from mother nature, whether it be a gem or a fossil.
The Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society is wrapping up its 51st annual show right now. About two dozen dealers of jewelry, beads, fossils and much more had their best findings on display. Craftsmen also showed off their skills. They demonstrated wire wrapping and gem faceting to on-lookers. But the biggest draw for both children and adults are the dazzling geodes.
"You pretty much go to a bin and they got different ones and you pick out the one you want and they actually crack them open there and hand them to you and you get to see something mother nature created years ago and you're the first person to see it," said Keith Peacock, president of The Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society.
The Mississippi Gem and Mineral Society has been around for over a half of a century. Their goal is to promote knowledge and enjoyment of activities related to the earth sciences.
