JACKSON, MS (WLBT) -  A Jackson teacher received a big surprise Monday morning.

Students cheered when JPS officials walked into Daniel Joseph Fuller's classroom, with camera crews behind them, to announce Fuller was selected 2010 teacher of the year.

The Forest Hill High School English teacher was selected from 35 nominees. He's only been teaching for two years, but Jackson Public School officials said Fuller's strong background in technology makes him stand out.

"I came to teaching after a career in technology, I did that for about 10 years, but I found I wasn't really, didn't feel like I was really making a big difference in my community. I thought this would be a good way to give back to the teachers in my life that have had such a huge impact on me," said Fuller.

Fuller was awarded several items that were donated by local businesses. They include a video camera and a portable projector.
