"Promote The Vote" winners honored at State Capitol

JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Winners of the 2010 "Promote The Vote" contest were honored at the State Capitol Monday. 

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann presented the awards in art, political cartoon, essay and video production. 

"Promote The Vote" is an educational project that encourages students to become more involved in Mississippi's election process. 

46 schools and more than 15,000 students participated in the program. This year's theme was "My vote, my future."

The winners are : 

Art K-2:

  • First Place          Jackson Joyner (Madison Avenue Elementary)
  • Second Place     Hannah Gray Bullard (Madison Avenue Elementary)
  • Third Place         Caleb Moak (Madison Avenue Elementary) 

Art 3-5: 

  • First Place          Yasmine Malone (Higgins Middle School)
  • Second Place     Ronnie Webb (Lyon Elementary)
  • Third Place         Jabrea Turner (Higgins Middle School) 

Art 6-8:

  • First Place          Jawanz Frazier (Higgins Middle School)
  • Second Place     Aby Cowan (Michel 6th Grade)
  • Third Place         Tina Gallardo (Michel 6th Grade) 

Political Cartoon 6-8:      

  • First Place          Regan Emfinger (Brandon Middle School)
  • Second Place     Chase Baker (Brandon Middle School)
  • Third Place         William Lee (Brandon Middle School) 

Essay 6-8:           

  • First Place          Taylor Sims (Brandon Middle School)
  • Second Place     Andrew Conquest (Brandon Middle School)
  • Third Place         Alex Green (Brandon Middle School) 

Video Production 6-8:

  • First Place          Sarah Keeton Odom & Jordan Lloyd (Brandon Middle School)
