The City of Jackson will turn into a party zone in two weeks, as the Mal's Saint Paddy's Day Parade comes to town. This year's celebration is set to be bigger and better than ever.
This is the 28th year the annual parade has been held here in Jackson. It's being hosted by someone who knows all about what it's like to be green.
During a press conference Thursday, organizer Malcolm White said, "The grand marshall this year is Kermit the frog, and he is a giant inflatable like you would see at the Macy's Day Parade. So, this is the first time we've ever had an inflatable so were a little nervous about that. But, we thought we would usher in the celebration of Jim Henson with Kermit."
The Muppet theme ties in with the Jim Henson exhibit at the Mississippi Museum of Art. Jim Henson's daughter Heather is in town promoting the event and was ecstatic Kermie was promoted to lead the parade.
"That's very exciting. The theme 'it ain't easy being green' is a fabulous theme for the parade here," said Heather Henson.
The parade begins at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 20th. The route is the same as last year.
The money raised will go to the Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital.
In recent years, a quarter of a million dollars was raised to help sick children.
