Woman arrested; Up to 100 dogs taken from home

Posted: Updated:

KEMPER COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - Kemper County sheriff officials have made an arrest in an animal cruelty case. The arrest comes after officials discovered more than 100 dogs living in deplorable conditions at the suspect's home. The raid took place at the Raven's Hope Animal Sanctuary. That's in Preston.

Inside the house: ankle-deep filth and an overwhelming stench of urine and dog feces. Authorities arrested Virginia Robinson. The 56-year-old faces a charge of disorderly conduct and "doing harm to herself" after dozens of dogs and several cats were found inside the home in pens.

The executive director of the Mississippi Animal Rescue League says Robinson used her sanctuary as a non-profit group to lure donations. "She considered it a non-profit rescue and I'm sure that the donors would be absolutely appalled that they were sending money to support a situation where so many animals are suffering and have such inadequate care."

Officials say animal cruelty charges could also be filed against Robinson in the near future.
