Home and Outdoor Living Extravaganza gets underway

Posted: Updated:

WLBT (JACKSON, MS) - The 35th annual Home and Outdoor Living Extravaganza got underway Friday morning at the Mississippi Trade Mart.

Thousands are expected to attend the 3-day shopping event, which features 200 exhibitors from across the state, as well as home improvement demos from the experts.

"Wintertime is starting to get away from us a little bit and people start looking at their homes and saying, 'What can we do to make it look better?' and they want to get outside and improve their yards, and they want to change paint colors, choose flooring, all those things people do. And they're starting to build," said Marty Milstead of the Mississippi Home Builders Association, which throws the event.

The show has undergone some changes this year. Organizers added a third day to the show for the first time in 35 years. There's also a new addition that showcases the latest "earth-friendly" products.

"We have a green aisle, that gives people the opportunity to save money. Energy efficiency is really big," said Milstead.

The event runs from 9 AM to 5 PM Friday and Saturday, and from 12:30 PM to 5 PM Sunday.

Admission is $5 for adults, and free for kids 12 and under.
