Search on for Univ. TN professor after canoe capsized

(WLBT) - Authorities are searching for a University Of Tennessee professor who disappeared after his canoe capsized Thursday.

The coast guard first began their search near Hopewell Chute. They say Dr. Grant Somes and a friend were canoeing across the Mississippi River, from Memphis to Arkansas, when the canoe overturned. The coast guard says Somes was not wearing a life vest.

The canoeist who made it to shore and phone police was wearing a life vest.
