JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The state Highway Patrol put their new DUI trucks into action Friday night and issued nearly 450 tickets.
From 8 Friday night until four Saturday morning state troopers issued 439 tickets.
They also netted 58 DUIs, made two drug arrests and one felony arrest.
The Highway Patrol worked with Jackson Police and set up road blocks across Hinds County.
JPD reports 62 arrests in the city..6 felony and 18 DUI lock ups during the weekend effort to target drunk drivers.
Joseph Daughtry, JPD Public Information Officer said, "That just goes to show you it doesn't have to be a holiday that we're gonna be out in full force to make sure that the city streets as well as the highways within the city limits of Jackson and surrounding areas are safe for your family as well as mine to drive."
The three new MHP trucks will be used for DUI roadblocks. Instead of transporting suspected drunk drivers to local jails for a breath test they will be taken to a BAT vehicle.
