OXFORD, MS (AP) - A judge has declined allow a man who tried to bargain his way out of jail by telling investigators he knew of a plot against President Barack Obama to withdraw his guilty plea.
Ronnie Lee Owen, a 41-year-old fugitive wanted in eight states on fraud or similar charges, pleaded guilty in January. His sentencing is scheduled for April 13 before U.S. District Judge Sul Ozerden in Gulfport.
On Monday, Ozerden - without comment - denied Owen's motion to withdraw his guilty plea and stand trial.
Owen had cited unspecified issues of misconduct by prosecutors, ineffective assistance of his defense attorney and the discovery of new evidence, according to court documents.
