JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Senator Roger Wicker of Mississippi will not be voting for President Obama's health-care proposal. He says he's not against reform, but wants to start the process over rather than pass what's on the table.
"It still raises taxes during a time of recession," he says. "It slashes half a trillion dollars from medicare, and it provides for taxpayer funding of abortion. All at the same time trying to re-write one-sixth of our economy. The people of Mississippi are against this bill. The people of the United States are against this bill."
Wicker also called the bill the most significant proposal toward socialized medicine that he's seen in his lifetime.
