JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - A gruesome discovery Saturday afternoon in a Yazoo City field.
The body of a man believed to have gone missing Friday night. Yazoo County authorities were investigating the scene for hours Saturday in a grassy area on West Second Street near Elm Street in the city limits.
Coroner Ricky Shivers identifies the victim as 25-year-old Benjamin Reed of Yazoo City. Reed's body was discovered in tall grass that could not be seen from the street. The area is behinds an apartment complex and some homes. More than 100 people gathered to watch while investigators combed the area for clues.
WLBT has been told that he went missing last night and was officially reported missing to Yazoo City Police this morning by a relative. Hours later the man's body was discovered. A homicide investigation is underway, but officials would not say how Reed died.
The coroner says the Mississippi Bureau Of Investigations is involved in the probe.
Yazoo County authorities have not returned our calls for comment.
