
GREENWOOD, MS (WLBT) – A motorist was killed and a passenger wounded in a shooting Saturday night in Greenwood.
Assistant Police Chief Huntley Nevels said shots were fired into a vehicle traveling along McLaurin Street.
Investigators said the driver, Marcus Willis, then turned onto Avenue G where more bullets entered the SUV.
According Leflore County Coroner Debra Sanders, the 27 year old died of a gunshot wound to the chest.
Police said the bullet was fired into the rear of the vehicle striking Willis in the back.
The Greenwood man was transported to a hospital by private vehicle where he died.
A male passenger was also shot in the left knee.
Assistant Chief Huntley said three to four people were inside the SUV at the time of the shooting.
Sunday officers had a person of interest in custody, but no arrest had been made.
