MEMPHIS, TN (WMC-TV) - A Memphis man is charged with running over his girlfriend twice, but she claims it didn't happen.
According to police, officers were called to the Highland Chateau Apartments on March 1, after an argument that started inside. According to the arrest warrant, during the argument, Derrick Harvey took $950 and a Playstation from his girlfriend's apartment, and then left.
Police said the argument spilled outside into the parking lot, where Harvey allegedly backed his car out, dragged his girlfriend 30 to 40 feet, eventually running over her while going in reverse.
According to investigators, he put the car in drive and ran over her a second time, sending her to the hospital in critical condition.
Police put out a warrant for his arrest, which he avoided for nearly three weeks. He was picked up Saturday night inside at a Memphis apartment complex, where he's also accused of three different drug charges involving cocaine and marijuana.
By phone Monday, Smith's girlfriend said she does not agree with the charges. She says she was never in critical condition, and instead was only in the hospital for three hours with a sprained ankle.
She said he didn't run over her twice, her injury was merely an accident, and Harvey even showed up at the hospital to see her.
Harvey's girlfriend said she does not wish to press charges, and does not think Harvey should be in jail on an attempted first degree murder case.
Harvey's bond was set at $350,000.
