JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - In consumer news, there are some changes at several metro area grocery stores.
The Brookshire's Food and Pharmacies in Brandon and Ridgeland re-opened as Kroger stores Tuesday morning.
Brookshire's recently closed for business in those locations. It also permanently closed two stores in the city of Jackson.
Kroger said it hired virtually all the Brookshire's employees who applied for jobs at the new Kroger stores.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson said the new Ridgeland store signals some big changes down the road for the existing Kroger on County Line Road.
"We probably don't need two stores so close together. We'll turn [the Ridgeland location] into a little dollhouse, a show house of what we need, and eventually, we'll probably close that other store [on County Line Road]," said Joe Bell, director of marketing and public relations for Kroger's Delta division.
Bell said those changes will probably take place within the next two to three years.
Meanwhile, Bell said there will be an official grand opening for the two new stores a few weeks after Easter.
