FLOWOOD, MS (WLBT) - Former Ole Miss basketball star David Sanders is the new head boys basketball coach at Northwest Rankin High School in Flowood.

Sanders was promoted from Northwest Rankin Middle School and will take over the 6-A program which has struggled over the past few years.

Sanders played at Ole Miss from 2000 to 2003 and became one of the teams premiere players under coach Rod Barnes. He says becoming a head coach at one of the top schools in the state is a dream come true.

"Well, I think it's a wonderful opportunity for me. I'm really excited about it it's really a good program, 6-A school, I know it's a lot of good players over here and I look forward to working with them."

Sanders takes over for Jason Broome who was let go after 4 seasons with the Cougars.
