JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson Mayor Harvey Johnson Jr. briefed the budget committee on recommended adjustments for a $1.9 million dollar shortfall Wednesday.
Mayor Johnson proposed using $1 million dollars saved by city departments during the first quarter combined with $1.3 million dollars in reserves to balance the budget for the remainder of the year.
The Mayor said the measures are due to below projected sales tax collections.
He said there will be no layoff and no cuts in city services.
The Mayor praised department heads for their cost saving efforts.
The budget committee will vote of the recommendation next month.
