JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Attorney General Jim Hood said despite a deadline from Governor Haley Barbour, he needs more time to decide whether he will join other states in a lawsuit to challenge healthcare reform.
Hood said, "Our office will seek the counsel of constitutional scholars and make a timely decision based upon dry law -- not anyone's political agenda or aspirations."
Hood also warned Barbour that the governor was not authorized to employ counsel while the attorney general was deciding whether to file suit.
Barbour had told Hood he needed an answer Thursday or he would file suit.
