FAYETTE, Miss. (AP) - A 31-year-old Fayette woman has been sentenced for attempting to smuggle contraband into the Jefferson County Correctional Facility.
Liniee Shay Winston entered an open plea, meaning she refused to accept the state's recommended sentence and threw herself on the mercy of the court on five counts
Attorney General Jim Hood said in a release that Jefferson County Circuit Court Judge Lamar Pickard sentenced Winston last week to five years on each count to run consecutively. Winston will serve the term under house arrest.
Winston was charged with attempting to smuggle marijuana, cell phones and liquor into the correctional facility for inmate Demon Clopton in 2009. Clopton was serving time for the sale and possession of cocaine.
