JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - A Mississippi student who sued over a school policy banning same-sex prom dates can bring her girlfriend to a privately sponsored dance.
Itawamba County school board attorney Michele Floyd said Tuesday that Constance McMillen can escort her girlfriend to the dance Friday at the Fulton Country Club.
The private prom replaces a dance that was canceled by the school district after McMillen challenged the date rule and a restriction that would've prevented her from wearing a tuxedo.
A judge ruled last week that the district's actions violated McMillen's rights, but he didn't reinstate the school prom.
The district announced Tuesday the private dance was being moved from Tupelo to the Fulton Country Club.
