Coca-Cola introduces USM-themed bottles

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Model-T delivery truck brought the first shipment of the Southern Miss Centennial Coca-Cola soft drinks to campus Tuesday.

Coca-cola has produced 24,000 bottles with centennial commemorative logos in honor of the 100th birthday of the university. They were delivered as part of the campus-wide celebration.

They will be sold at three locations on campus. All money raised from sales will go towards scholarships.

"We are delighted to have our brand on probably the most popular beverage in the world, and it's also very fitting that we're celebrating this very first event with a longtime partner of the university and the City of Hattiesburg," said USM President Martha Saunders.

A representative from Coca-Cola agreed.

"This is a wonderful moment in USM's history," said Brad Brian, vice president of the Mississippi division of Coca-Cola United. "We wanted to be a part of it, and we've had a relationship with them for years and years. I don't know if it's been 100 years, but it's been a lot of them, and we've been great partners, and we just thought this would help kick the whole celebration off."

The bottles are $5 each or $25 for a carton of six.
