ITTA BENA, Miss. (AP) - Five Mississippi Valley State football players were among 14 people arrested on drug charges this week.
Gary Ward, commander of North Central Narcotics Task Force, says Wednesday's arrests at the school came after a six-week investigation.
Ward tells the Greenwood Commonwealth that officers seized about seven ounces of marijuana, $4,700 in cash and two vehicles.
MVSU head football coach Karl Morgan, who was hired in January, says current football players Eddie Ivory, Kyle Hurt and Keldrick Hooks were arrested as were Andre Berry and Jarvis L. Holmes, who Morgan says played for the Delta Devils this past season.
Morgan had no other comment on the arrests.
Berry, Ivory and Hurt are charged with sale of marijuana on a school campus. Holmes and Hooks are charged with possession of marijuana.
Initial court appearances were pending.
