JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - The Mississippi Charity Horse Show held its 80th annual event Friday. Miss Mississippi Anna Tadlock launched the show on horseback; greeting the audience at the Kirk Fordice Equine Center. Every April, some of the best Tennessee walking horses from around the world are matched in this show.
This event was a grand celebration of the breed and their riders. Proceeds always benefit a worthy charity and this year organizers selected Blair E. Batson Hospital for children.
"It is just for research and for children that need a place. Some have cancer. Some have been in auto accidents, trauma to some extent, and just one trip on one floor will make us want to double what we did this year for next year," said Mississippi Charity horse Show Association President Robert Taylor.
The charity show began in 1930 and has been the venue for many world champions. Organizers hoped to raise $25,000 for Blair E. Batson Children's Hospital this year.
