JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Thirty lucky students from a Jackson elementary school are going on a trip of a lifetime.

Students from Pecan Park Elementary school loaded onto a chartered bus Saturday afternoon. Their destination? Washington D.C.

First Lady Michelle Obama extended a special invitation for the students to participate in the annual Easter Egg Roll on the front lawn of the White House.

The children were selected based on good citizenship. Also while visiting the nation's capitol the students will tour monuments and museums.

"It's an exciting trip that was only made possible because of the help of the community. The whole metro area and outside the metro area and donated money and we were able to fund this trip for all the children," said principal Wanda Quon.

The First Lady visited Pecan Park Elementary school during her trip to Jackson last month to promote her Let's Move Wellness initiative.
