Campaign launched to restrict eminent domain take-overs

(WLBT) - The State Farm Bureau Federation has launched a campaign to restrict the way the government can take over private property.

The federation has launched a petition drive to get an initiative placed on the 2011 ballot. It would limit eminent domain to direct public use.

Under the new law, property could not be taken by the government to give to a business. The bureau has lobbied for years for tighter restrictions that define just what private property the government can take for public use.
