JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Big changes at top positions could be coming to parts of Jackson city government.
Tuesday Mayor Harvey Johnson made his recommendation for new school board members, leaders of his administration and Public Works Department.
Dr. Otha Burton, who served as chief administrative officer under Johnson's first administration, and Monica Gilmore-Love, active PTA member and a mother of three JPS students, are the two new school board member appointees.
Johnson is recommending Lee Unger as director of the department of administration. He formerly worked at Piney Woods as director of finance.
In public works Thelman Boyd would be replaced by Dan Gaillet, a former traffic engineer for the city.
"He asked me to come down here and were facing quite a few challenges down here so I have a challenge so I'm looking forward," said Gaillet.
Thelman Boyd would take over the assistant chief administrative officer position. All appointments would have to be approved by the full council.
"Thelman's a great American. He's worked hard,;he's done a great job as public works director. I've seen the resume of Mr. Gaillet and it looks like a solid resume and I don't think he'll have a problem getting confirmed," said Ward One Councilman Jeff Weill.
Ward 3 Councilman Kenneth Stokes said, "I kinda wanna take my time and look at the people and have a chance to have a conversation with them."
The city council will hold a confirmation hearing for all four of the new appointees next Tuesday at 1:30 p.m.
