MADISON COUNTY, MS (WLBT) - An accident in Madison County killed one person and sent a toddler to the hospital Thursday.
Eyewitnesses say an unidentified woman was traveling at a high rate of speed on Greens Crossing Road off North County Line Road.
And, as the roadway went from pavement to gravel the vehicle went airborne colliding with a tree.
A small boy-said to be about three years old was found walking alone a short time later. He was found by a man and a woman who then discovered the accident scene.
"There was the baby walking up the road all the blood and then I looked and saw the car and I said it's a wreck so I pulled on down and went and parked. I got the baby and put him on the back of my truck and I told her to watch the baby I'm gonna look in the car and see if she's living," said eyewitness, T. W. Clayton.
Clayton said the woman did not have a pulse when another passer-by checked. We have been told she was dead when Madison County Sheriff's Deputies and fire officials responded to the accident.
The small boy was airlifted to a local hospital. No word on his condition at this time.
