Coast man falls from boat, dies

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (AP) - Jackson County Sheriff Mike Byrd says an Ocean Springs man died Friday after he fell from his boat during a fishing trip at Black Lake.

Byrd told WLOX-TV that the victim, identified as Willie Lee Gaines, and a friend were fishing on Black Lake in the Wade community. The friend told authorities that Gaines stood up in the boat, lost his balance and fell into the water.

The friend jumped in and tried to rescue Gaines, but the sheriff said he could not lift him out of the water.

Gaines' body was recovered just before 3:30 p.m.
