JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - It's not football season, but one practice field in Jackson was bustling Saturday for the annual Junior ROTC Spring Drill Competition. It takes place at Hughes Field on Ellis Avenue.
All high schools from Jackson, and also Terry High School, took part.
The competition consists of platoon and squad level drills, both armed and un-armed.
The Junior ROTC program promotes leadership and character development.
"The students leave the program prepared for success in life, that's what we stress to them. Our goal is to get 100 percent of our graduates into some post high school institution of higher learning," says Paul Willis, Director of the Army ROTC for Jackson Public Schools.
Members from local Army National Guard, Army Reserve Units, and ROTC cadets from Jackson State University served as judges.
