JACKSON, MS (WLBT) The investigation into a weekend homicide at a Jackson gas station continues. Police are still searching for the shooter, who was at large Monday night.
It happened just before noon Sunday at the Texaco gas station in the 5300 block of North State Street.
This murder happened in broad daylight in front of several witnesses. The family of the victim said he was on his way to church when he was shot.
The murder victim is 28-year-old Michael Olowo-ake Junior. He was shot once in the side during an altercation in his pickup, in front of the convenience store Sunday morning.
His attacker fled the scene. Olowo-ake was transported to an ambulance that was staged a block away by family members.
He was taken to University Medical Center, where he later died.
The father of the victim, Michael Olowo-ake Senior was surrounded by family at their home a short distance away Monday.
Michael Olowo-ake Senior said, "It is a senseless shooting. All these shootings have been happening with kids, in those days they don't do this, just fist fighting, but these days guns. I don't know why these guns are in these kids hands; it's terrible. "
Michael Olowo-ake Junior was the oldest of five children. He became a father just five weeks ago with the birth of his first son, and was set to get married in the near future.
