JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Jackson State University's president said the job to lead Southern University was not something he was looking for.
According to Dr. Ronald Mason the opportunity "knocked on his door."
Southern University System is looking to choose a new president by the end of April.
Mason is one of four semi-finalists scheduled to interview Tuesday and he believes they will make their final decision in the next few weeks.
WLBT caught up with Mason Monday at the opening day ceremony for JSU's annual International Week Celebration.
"We decided to take a look. We are a long way from here and it ever happening. It's a very political process. My politics in Louisiana are very, very rusty. I'm not politicking anyway, but it was the kind of thing where you wonder if in the natural flow of things, it is something you should take a look at. So I am," said Mason.
Mason has been president at Jackson State University since February 2000.
